About

I am a busy Military Wife and mother of 4.    Three boys on earth and our Precious Baby Girl, in heaven.  Madeline left us in November 2010  at the age of 16 months.  Our Beautiful Baby Girl had Down Syndrome.  As a result, she had a congenital heart defect,  and a trach.  Her passing was swift, sudden and utterly devastating.  She was quite simply adored.

Our son, Johnny, is now 11.  He has Autism and  his very own unique view of the world.   Although he was a late bloomer in the speech department, he is more than making up for it.  He has always seemed to blurt whatever is on his mind, of course, all unedited and the result of his literal view of the world.  Due to our military life, John has been to the White House, met high ranking officers and other somewhat important people.  He is not easily impressed and therefore others are usually humbled.

My boys keep me going but I wouldn’t say they keep me sane.  From the moment my oldest son (13) was born, nothing in my parenting experience has been “normal” or anything like out of a parenting book.   My boys are now 13, 11, and 9.  As the boys have grown I have frequently been described the following way… “you know who she is… the one with all the boys.  I would describe us as a circus act, complete with clowns, three rings and pull my finger jokes.  Repeatedly I have been asked, “are you writing this stuff down?

And now I can say, YES, YES I am.

To be honest, I only write half of this.  Johnny and The Brothers write the other half.  I am just keeping a record, you know, for posterity sake… and so I can hold it against them when they pick my assisted living facility.

Expect guest appearances from “The Big Brother” and “The Little Brother” and let me not forget The Captain (Daddy) and Me, Amy (The Mom).   My Madeline will also appear in these writings, as her all too brief time on earth filled us all with love and wonder.

I share with you our story…our adventures in autism, the chaotic, the funny, as well as our life after loss, in…

“Life Accordingto John.”

Please visit often.  Trust me…you never know what will happen.

  4. I don’t know you. But i found your page through Bob Barrett on facebook. He was my high school basketball coach. I love seeing life through other people’s eyes, especially boys. Also because I am so involved with helping military families, this is an addition way for me to pray for you! You are a strong woman for your role as a military wife and mother of boys. Blessings to you!

  5. It’s great to “see” you Amy. What an amazing story you have…what an amazing mom you are! Your boys are so handsome, and Madeline, beautiful. I’m in awe of your wonderful attitude after such tragic loss. You are truly an inspiration to me, as a mother. Thank you for sharing your stories.

Amy, I just discovered your blog today. I actually saw it on Jeanne Fairbanks’ Facebook. Jeanne and Amy P are good friends of mine. As a mom of three sons and a daughter, I know the three ring circus of which you speak. I love the blog! Keep it up!

    • Cindy,

Thank you! You do not know how timely your comment was. Love the words of encouragement on a much needed day! I have known Jeanne and Amy P since I was 15. Dear friends. Have been by me through thick and thin.

      Thank you for reading.

      Amy
